Petty is especially important to me as it was the last song recorded by my friend and amazing artist the late great Dwayne Dixon aka D-Mel. Petty is a song about being in a DL or secret relationship where you understand that you agreed to it for the benefit of the other person but it also leads to a lot of discomfort, waiting around, blocking yourself from living while the person who needs the relationship to be secret lives their best life. It chooses a more playful route in talking about it versus straight anger or discourse.
